How To Stay Inspired and Feel Creative

We all experience weeks or months or years where we go thru a “what am I really doing” feeling.  As a blogger sometimes you get into a content rut. With any creative profession or hobby you will have those “writers block” moments where the content and the inspiration just doesn’t flow. I have definitely been there and want to offer up 10 tips of how to stay inspired and feel creative.  These are things that don’t always come easy and will take a little bit of effort on your part to do, however the end result will be there!

10 Tips To Stay Inspired And Feel Creative…

  1. Have A Role Model: Whether that be a blogger that you just completely look up to and every time you read their posts and look at their IG feed you just have that “inspired feeling.” Look to them.  I have a couple bloggers that I just love their style and their vibe they represent and anytime I feel stale I go to their blogs and accounts and immediately have this feeling of “I want to be like you!” When I say that, it is not a “I want to copy you” situation, it is a “your content is so amazing and inspires me to keep going” it is perfectly okay to draw ideas from others! “Imitation is the best form of flattery. We don’t need to completely copy someone, but we need these role models who help guide us and inspire us to keep finding our flow.
  2. Let Your Work Space Reflect What You Desire: Where you write, create, draw, edit photos, etc., let it be in a space that makes you feel inspired.  Put up artwork that you love, keep it clean and orderly or let it be a bit messier than the rest of your house.  Maybe keep the area minimal so you feel like you can think and are not bogged down by all the clutter.  Everyone’s workspace will be different, however it is important to make yours your own.
  3. Keep A Journal: Any time you get any ideas, even if they are not developed, write it down! Write in your notes on your phone or in an actual planner. I have an Erin Condren planner which I love for this.
  4. Surround Yourself With A Positive Tribe: Surround yourself with a tribe of people who lift you up, who are positive, and who push you to keep going!  When you hang around people that have so much energy and motivation that will be infectious and you will catch that vibe.
  5. Don’t Be Afraid To Try Something New: So many times we get stuck in our ways or may be worried that if we change things up and take a risk we will fail.  I always loved the saying, “if you fail, it means you’re trying.”  You may strike gold if you switch up your approach.  Change up your daily routine even to mix get out of your normal everyday.
  6. It’s Okay To Take A Time Out: When you are feeling like you have plateaued. It’s perfectly acceptable to reset and recharge. Take a break from your creative outlet for a few days and do something else.  Sometimes that is all we need, to take a step back from something and get a fresh perspective.
  7. Exercise Your Body: When we exercise, whether that be an intense workout or a walk and a nice stretch, it all helps blood flow throughout the body and to the brain.  I like to run and as I’m running I always for some reason have new ideas pop in my head for content.
  8. Have A Reference Shot Folder: Keep a folder on the desktop of your computer of photographs that you just simply love! You can also create a Pinterest board of inspiration. Anything that just makes you feel something.
  9.  Have A Playlist That You Like To Work To: When I edit photos and write blog posts, I like to listen to music.  Music depends on what mood I’m in, however I have a playlist of songs that suit me to kinda play more in the background of my thoughts but help push the flow of ideas  along.  The only way to know what works for you is to listen to your music while you work and keep the songs that you found yourself not too distracted by, but actually felt like you got things done!
  10. Give Yourself Credit: Don’t be so hard on yourself if something didn’t turn out the way you wanted or expected it to.  Most importantly, don’t let it disrupt your creativity.  When creating art, a blog, a photo, a design of anything really, you won’t please everyone, and that is okay.  Feel good and be proud of the work that you do. “You Do You.”
